The use of steroids may be due to a medical concern or a desire to reduce fat and increase muscle. Some people worry that steroid use will be detected by various forms of drug testing.
Steroids can show up in a blood or urine test. However, these forms of testing usually are reserved for opiates, amphetamines, PCP, cocaine, or THC. This is known as a typical SAMSHA-5 Test which is the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration guideline.

Steroid use will show up in hair testing. However, hair testing is a more expensive option. Urine and blood screening is more likely to be utilized when looking for steroid use.
Where there is drug testing in place for athletes, then more advanced forms of testing are going to be done. With this in mind, it is possible the steroids and other Performance Enhancing Drugs (PED) would be identified in the system. Such advanced testing is done to deter athletes from using steroids to gain an unfair advantage over their competition.
In a work setting or other type of environment, the testing typically isn’t going to dig that deeply to look for steroid use. They are going to be more concerned with finding the commonly used drugs.
