When we think about someone using meth, we tend to think of an adult or perhaps a teenager. However, there have been some reported incidents where it was actually a young child involved. A hair follicle drug test is an effective way to find out one way or the other. It can also provide information about how long the use has been going on based on the growth of the hair follicles. Such testing is simple and won’t be traumatic to the child either.
Laura Evans Charges
The charges against Laura Evans stem from her daughter who was only 1 year old at the time, testing positive for meth. Her mother has been charged with 3rd degree felony child abuse. The bond was set for $15,000.
The person that reported the incident was the little girl’s father. He came in to report possible neglect. He stated that his daughter was clean and fed when he dropped her off at her mom’s for a visit. When he picked her up, she had nail polish all over her face.
The father had concerns his daughter wasn’t being properly looked after on those visits. He also stated that the mother seemed like she was on something. Since she had issues with drugs before, he was concerned. He also thought his daughter’s behavior seemed off. He decided to take her to a drug screening facility where the hair follicle test was conducted.
This particular hair follicle test looks for several types of drugs. Two were found in his daughter’s hair. They were amphetamines and methamphetamines. This information was reported to both law enforcement and to the Department of Children, Youth, and Families. They went to the mom’s house and found both marijuana and narcotics.
The mother had scars, lesions, and sores on her body, which are believed to be due to her meth addiction. She was arrested and taken into custody. The child is with her father right now and the mother is awaiting legal processing. She is also being assessed for help with her drug addiction.
Without these test results on her hair follicles, it may have gone undetected for a very long time. The father urges other parents who think there may be an issue for their child to pursue hair follicle drug testing locally.
